Steady state cardio harms the body and actually prevents weight loss

Independent clinical studies prove that steady state cardiovascular exercise can be harmful to the heart and can put the body into a catabolic or muscle-eating state that impedes weight loss.

Let me lay it on the line for you, my long-range runner… my elliptical junky… too much heavy cardio is just bad for you.  It doesn’t drop the weight and it can cause scar tissue on the heart.

So stop it already!

You should be relieved, although I know you probably don’t believe me now.

Hey, Brian Flatt here, personal trainer, weight loss expert and author of several wildly successful weight loss programs.  I’d like to share some fascinating news with you that really should give you some relief.

The Journal of Sports Medicine

In a study back in 2009, a series of marathon runners were examined before and after the Marathon of Sands.  These were professional marathon athletes well trained in endurance cardio competitions.

The marathon of Sands is a 6-day event with a marathon on each day.  The study wanted to test the performance of the athletes as well as the effect that this large amount of running had on their bodies.  The results were quite illuminating.

On average, each contestant showed a total weight loss of 6.1%.  Upon further testing, it was discovered that 82% of this loss was in muscle mass and only 18% resulted from a decrease in body fat.

Basically, what this study and many others show is that when you do a lot of steady state cardio, you put the body into a catabolic state rather than an enhanced metabolic state.  This is a crucial difference in how your body processes stored energy.

Muscle vs. fat

Our bodies do two things well – they store fat and they burn fat.

Metabolism is the process by which your body breaks down fat deposits and uses them for energy.  That’s why with any exercise program or diet, your goal is to raise metabolism.  In my new program, the 1 Week Diet, for example, I show you how to triple your body’s fat burning power without crazy exercise, cardio or starvation.

By simply harnessing the body’s natural bio-chemistry and rhythms, you increase your fat burning time from about 4 hours per day to about 12 hours – and in the process, you lose inches off your waist within a single week.

On the other hand, catabolic is the state where your body begins to break down muscle tissue in order to provide your cells with energy.  Muscle is far denser than fat and contains more energy.  The problem with this is two-fold…

First, it’s not healthy to burn muscle tissue.

Secondly, when you raise your metabolism, it’s your muscles that do the work of burning fat.  The less muscle you have, the less fat you can burn!

So heavy running and becoming catabolic actually works in the opposite way.  Sure, marathon runners can lose weight… but they have to regulate what they eat and tend to have stringy and not very attractive physiques.

Nutrition vs. cardio

In the Journal of Sports Nutrition, you can find a 1998 study that pitted proper diet against steady state cardio.  A group of obese men and women participated in a 3-month trial that contained 2 study groups.

Group A would spend 60 minutes a day for 6 days per week over the course of 12 weeks doing regular cardio vascular activity.  Group B would simply eat a more healthy and balanced diet.

It turns out that there was no significant advantage for group A who took part in the regular aerobic exercise.  The average weight loss for women was 3 pounds per month and the average for men just under 4.

There’s a secret to unlocking metabolism

Do you know that the healthiest and longest-living people in the world are rural Japanese?  Specifically, the residents of Okinawa regularly exceed 100 years and exhibit robust physical and mental health for their entire lives.

Why?

Because they still live by ancient Japanese diet and health traditions.  Traditions that were taught to my grandfather when he was nursed back to health after a near fatal fighter crash in 1945.  A family of farmers helped him and taught him their simple but effective ways of reducing fat, maintaining youthfulness and establishing long lives.

Granddad shared his experience and knowledge with me.  These old traditions have now been proven by modern science.

It’s possible to turn your body into a fat burning machine without steady state cardio, hours at the gym, starvation diets or dramatic changes to your lifestyle.  It’s just a matter of biology and working in harmony with your body.

Have you tried weight loss and fitness programs that haven’t quite delivered the results you wanted?

Are you tired of that excess fat in the belly, hips and thighs?

Would you like to jump out of bed every morning feeling great and looking 10 years younger all while still enjoying many of your favorite foods?

Does the idea of safely losing over 3 pounds of dangerous body fat in 7 days appeal to you?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then the 1 Week Diet may be the miracle you’ve been looking for!

THE FAT DECIMATOR SYSTEM: The Hidden Truth About Cardio

How your daily gut busting routine may actually be preventing weight loss and pushing you closer to death

In western cultures like ours, countries like the U.S., UK, Australia, Canada and other European nations, what’s the first thing that anybody thinks of or tells you whenever the idea of weight loss is brought up? You’ve got to hit the treadmill, exercise bike or the streets and burn those calories!

On the surface of it, this makes sense, right? After all, you’re doing a lot of work and you’re sweating and breathing heavy. Surely running a few miles every day must be dissolving those unsightly LB’s like crazy, right?

Would you be surprised to hear that this is actually wrong?

No, I’m not crazy – let me lay it out for you…

Yes, cardio does burn calories, it’s true. And yes, some cardio is good for you. Light cardio promotes a healthy heart and increases your endurance. On the other hand, though… heavy cardio actually begins to have the opposite effects.

Before I get into why, let me give you a simple but common sense example. Imagine pre-historic Man. These men and women are running around the Paleolithic world chasing down antelope, red deer, aurox, bison and the occasional wooly mammoth. Most of their diet comes from animal protein and what edible plants they can scrounge.

Well, if cardio was so great for losing weight, these people would simply starve to death while running down their food. All that cardio would burn through their energy reserves faster than they could replace them. Yet they didn’t starve to death… why?

For one thing, a lot of heavy cardio is hard on your knees and feet. Second, it’s also hard on the heart. Too much cardio actually begins to add scar tissue to your heart and increases your rate of heart attack. We didn’t realize that for a while until many scientific studies were done on the subject.

As for losing weight, excessive cardio actually has the reverse effect and here’s why. Our bodies are genetically designed to survive. Our body’s job is to store energy as fuel both for its immediate use and in the form of fat for those times when food is scarce. However, when you deprive your body of the nutrients it requires, either by starving yourself on some crazy diet or by over-taxing your body with lots of cardio, it begins to switch into survival mode.

Additionally, and unfortunately with heavy cardio, your body also becomes anabolic.

This means that it begins to burn the most effective source of energy first – and that’s not fat… it’s your muscle. Take a good look at some of these chronic long distance runners who compete. Many of them are kind of stringy looking and have to pack in the carbs just to maintain their muscle mass.

You want your body to burn fat, not muscle, obviously. It’s not really about calories, as many diets and so-called fitness gurus try to make you believe. Calories are only a means of measuring food energy. Yes, if you want to lose weight, you must take in less calories than you consume, yet there’s so much more to it than that.

The biggest secret to weight loss isn’t running 10 miles every day, starving yourself or even avoiding some of your favorite carbs, believe it or not. In fact, if you’re going to lose weight properly, it’s actually important that you do eat some of your favorite foods!

I know that sounds crazy, too – but it’s absolutely true, and I can prove it to you! If you know how to use your body’s natural processes to your advantage, it’s entirely possible to lose 10, 20 or even 30+ pounds in a single month without starvation diets, gut wrenching cardio, ridiculous workouts and eating anything gross! It’s true and I can show you the science to prove it!

5 so-called healthy foods that are making you fatter, sicker and weaker

Caution: if you don’t understand how your body processes food for energy, you could literally be your own worst enemy!

Cut out the carbs, reduce the fat, eat whole grains, ditch gluten, drink more juice and find healthy snacks… all of this sounds good, doesn’t it?  Well, I’m here to pull the wool back and show you why most, if not all, of these ideas actually harm the body and torpedo any weight loss effort you might be trying to make.

Brian Flatt here – personal trainer and weight loss expert.  I’m the author of the 3 Week Diet, the 2 Week Diet and a brand new program called the 1 Week Diet.  A program that teaches you how to work with your body’s natural bio-chemistry and lose up to 3 pounds of unhealthy fat in a single week.

Sounds crazy, right?

Rapid weight loss in 1 week sounds like you’re going to have to kill yourself at the gym, run until you pass out and drink water and eat wheat germ, morning, noon and night, doesn’t it?

Wrong, my friend!

Before I get into that, I want to explain about 5 foods that we’re all led to believe are healthy alternatives.  Foods that in the harsh light of actual science, do more harm than good, especially if you’re trying to drop some LB’s.

Only 5 you ask?  Oh, let me tell you there are way more than that, but I don’t want to drown you in information that you may find strange or hard to accept.  So let’s just take a quick look at 5 derailers you may want to watch out for…

Food enemy #1 – Juices and smoothies

Boy, Brian, you’re hitting me square between the eyes right out of the gate!

Let me make an important distinction here.  I’m not saying fruit and vegetable juices and smoothies are bad. On the contrary, my 1 Week Diet program comes with a delicious smoothie recipe bonus book.  But the difference is in how you get the juices.

I’m talking about packaged stuff here.  Bottled juices and pre-made smoothies.  Generally, these contain loads of sugar and quite a few carbs… which turn into sugar.  And as you know, too much sugar = fat.

If you’re buying these things, check the label for sugars and make sure there are no more than 15 carbs.  Also the combination should be 1 serving of fruit and the rest veggies.

Food enemy #2 – Veggie chips

Sorry to burst your bubble, but that bag of so-called “healthy” veggie chips is probably loaded with carbs and sugars.  Most commercial veggie chips are actually made from potatoes with some veggie powder sprinkled on them.

If you’re into these snacks, though, there’s a way to get them that’s actually very healthy and even helps to ramp up your metabolism and burn fat…

Food enemy #3 – Protein bars!

Dun, dun, dun….

Yeah, these expensive goodies are little more than glorified candy bars.  Most protein bars have as much sugar as a typical candy bar with a bit of extra protein thrown in… and even that is suspect.

Want to add a protein burst?  There’s a right way to do it and in the 1 Week Diet, I explain how.

Hint: Avoid packaging!

Food enemy #4 – Whole grain breads

Once again, we run into problems with stuff that’s pre-packaged.  In order for the bread companies to claim that their product is “whole” grain… they only have to make sure that some of the flour comes from whole wheat or oats.  They’re allowed to still include as much as 70% processed flour!

White flour is very easily converted into sugar… and you know what sugar does!

Food enemy #5 – yogurt with fruit at the bottom

Oh, come on Brian!

Sorry, but here again we’re up against sugar.  Those delicious yogurts with the fruit at the bottom that you mix up and enjoy have their fruit sitting in syrup… sugary syrup… and while fruit is healthy and yogurt is healthy… this is just more unnecessary sugar you can’t afford.

How to turn the tables on the food companies

In the 1 Week Diet, I show you how to lose a pound or more every 72 hours by teaching you how your body works.  Your body does two things very well:

Your body stores fat.

Your body burns fat.

In modern times, with so much stress, sitting on our butts and the consumption of pre-packaged foods loaded with sugars and preservatives, we’re all forcing our bodies to store fat for up to 20 hours each day!

However, by understanding how your natural bio-chemistry works and doing things that work toward boosting your metabolism, you can ramp up your body to go from burning fat only 4 hours every day to as much as 12 hours a day.

When you do that, you begin to shed unsightly and unhealthy fat rapidly – as much if not more than a pound every 72 hours!

It’s actually a simple process that doesn’t involve hours of grueling exercise, starvation diets, weird and disgusting foods or really changing your lifestyle all that much.  It’s been proven to work and I’d like to share it with you now.

I’ve created a free presentation on the 1 Week Diet including how I came up with the concept and how the program combines ancient Japanese health secrets with modern science to deliver astonishing results that I guarantee.

Here’s a tiny sample of what the 1 Week diet explores – if you like fruit and yogurt, then buy plain healthy yogurt and whole fruits and combine them yourself! This one simple tip is dozens of times more healthy than what you buy in the store and literally ramps up your metabolism, while also serving as a great snack before you go to bed.

Learn the truth about what you’re being sold – don’t keep butting your head against the wall.

If you’ve ever felt that you want to slim down and regain your former level of energy, health and youthfulness, then you can’t afford not to check out the 1 Week Diet.
